Verna Bennett passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 surrounded by loved ones.

She was 75 years old.  Verna (nee Clem) beloved wife of the late Eugene E. Bennett and devoted mother of Phyllis Bennett, Tina Jenkins, Alicia (Herbert) Hipple, Tonya Langdon, Deborah Bennett, David Bennett, Daniel (Shelly) Bennett and Lewis Bennett.  Loving grandmother of Jennifer and Sarah Jenkins, Rebecca Langdon, Billie Bennett and the late Nicholas Bennett.  Dear great grandmother of Jamie, Austin, Emma, Gabriella, and Joseph.  Dear sister of Marie, Imogene, Barbara, Maggie Sue, Zeek and Bill.  Residence formerly of Norwood, OH.  (Information from Naegele-Kleb-Ihlendorf Funeral Home)

Harold OakesHarold Oaks passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2014.

He was 75 years old.  Harold was the son of the late Frank and Eliza (Collins) Oaks of Jackson, Kentucky.  Loving husband for 56 years to Faye (Gross) Oaks of Amelia, Ohio.  He leaves 3 children; Frank (Tawyna) Oaks of Loveland, Ohio, Stephen (Bev) Oaks of Thorton, Colorado and Tammy Wright of Cincinnati, Ohio.  Grandfather of Elijah (Tammy) Oaks, Joshua (Nichole) Oaks, Heather and Alyse Oaks of Loveland, Ohio; Stevie and Adam Oaks of Thornton, Colorado; and Danielle Wright of Cincinnati, Ohio. Great-grandfather of Cooper Oaks.  Brother of Mary (Tony) Rizzo and Fran (Bill) Brown.  Preceded in death by 3 brothers, Elbert, Elmer, and Harlan Oaks.  Also survived by several nieces and nephews that he loved very much.  Harold worked for Heekin Can Corporation and retired from the Ball Corporation.  He was a member for many years of Norwood-Winton Masonic Lodge and a Kentucky Colonel.  (Information from EC Nurre Funeral Homes, Inc.)

Unity of the Brethren!

What a mighty move of God today at the Full Gospel House of Refuge!  We are truly blessed and honored to have the Lord visit our church services as He does.  God is looking for a church where can do a mighty work, and we are more than happy to welcome Him into the House of Refuge.

Pastor Cox’s inspiring word for this week comes from Psalms 133:1, “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!”

When the body of Christ comes together in one accord, we open the door for the Holy Spirit to move upon us and do a wondrous work.

As Jesus says in Matthew 18:20, “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”  And indeed today He was!

Just a Reminder – Bro. Sam Buckley will ministering this Tuesday, 9/23.  Church service starts at 7:00pm; we’d love to see you there.

Our own Bro. Bob Osborne will be ministering the last Tuesday of the month, 9/30.

Congratulations to Bro. Bob Osborne!  Bro. Peace has fully turned over the musical reins to Bro. Osborne, and he will now be leading the Praise Team at the Full Gospel House of Refuge.  Pictures will follow shortly of our new Praise Team members.

A special thanks goes out to our volunteer workers for the terrific job they did this past Saturday:
– Grounds clean-up
– Inside clean-up of the church
– Baptismal work
(hopefully we’ll be baptizing people in just a few short weeks!)

We plan to have recurring Volunteer Saturdays the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month beginning October 4th.

Work time will be from 10:00am-4:00pm with Bro. Leon Peace leading the interior work, and Bro. Tim Thoma leading the exterior work.

More details to follow regarding the type of work we hope to get accomplished in the next 3-4 months.

Bishop Darrel Peters gave a wonderful sermon today on unoccupied territory.  Be sure to check out our previous blog for more insight into his message.

You’ll want to mark your calendars for the next couple of Tuesdays as we have special guests lined up.  Bro. Charlie and Bro. Mike Brandenburg will be joining us for this Tuesday’s service, and Bro. Sam Buckley is on the agenda for the following Tuesday.   We hope you can join us for what is sure to be two great, spirit-led services.

Our sister in Christ Sadie Wilson went to be with the Lord this past Friday, 12th. She was 90 years old.  Visitation for Sadie will be this Wednesday, 17th from 10:30am-12:00pm at Life Change Church in Batavia, OH.  The funeral service will follow directly after at 12:00pm.  The church address is listed below for all who would like to attend:

Interment will be at Pierce Twp. Cemetery. While we miss her dearly and offer our condolences to her family, we know that our sweet Sadie is dancing and rejoicing with the Lord at this very moment and forever more.

Unoccupied Territory

What a wonderful message from Bishop Darrel Peters today about unoccupied territory.  We as Christians need to step up and claim the blessings God has for us.  Bishop Peters read from Joshua 1:1-9 with emphasis on verse 3:

1 Now after the death of Moses the servant of the Lord it came to pass, that the Lord spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ minister, saying,
2 Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.
3 Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.
4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast.
5 There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
6 Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.
7 Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.
8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

 

In so many situations, Jesus has already blessed us.  He is just wanting us to take that first step that enables us to receive our blessing.  So step into your unoccupied territory right now and claim all that the Lord has in store for you.

9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
